Understand currency pairs, spreads, pips, lots and the basic mechanics of trading.
Bid and Ask
Bid is the price at which you can sell and ask is the price at which you can buy. Quotes may change before execution. The difference between them is the spread and represents one component of trading cost.
Example
A bid of 1.1000 and ask of 1.1002 gives a two-pip spread for EUR/USD.
